The scripts on this page should work on any linux distro, and may work on OS X.
The code below should be inserted into a text document with the name given (or any name you like) and made executable (chmod +x filename). The file can then be called locally #/path/to/filename or added to your /usr/local/bin for universal access. You should change YOUR-WATERMARK-TEXT-HERE to your desired watermark phrase.

All but one of these are destructive scripts, in that the original file will be overwritten. IMHO, you should run these scripts on copies of your original images so you retain an original un-watermarked copy. The copies can be deleted once they're uploaded.

Non Destructive Directory Method
Destructive Directory Method
32-pixel single file watermarker
16-pixel single file watermarker

This would be for adding a text watermark to all pix in a directory. It will not destroy the originals, but output the changed pix with a _wm added before the suffix.

This is the same script as above, save it doesn't make copies, but overwrites the existing files with the watermarked ones. This would best be used on a folder full of copied images – this way you keep your originals “original”, and can delete the copy folder after you've uploaded the watermarked images

This is script for use with a single file. It will create a watermark using a 32-pixel font size. This is probably not suitable for images smaller than 600 pixels wide.
